Move to Serbia – start with your own situation

There is no single relocation path that fits everyone. Citizenship, reason for moving, planned length of stay, work status and family situation can change the correct route. Start by identifying whether your stay is short-term or long-term and whether the purpose is employment, self-employment/business, study, family, property ownership, another lawful ground or a combination of factors.

1. Check entry and visa rules

Use the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa-regime page for your citizenship. A short-stay C visa generally covers stays up to 90 days in a 180-day period. A D visa is a long-stay visa for 90 to 180 days and can be linked to purposes such as employment, education or family reunification. Current Serbian rules also provide electronic services through Welcome to Serbia.

2. Decide how you will live and work

  • Employment or a job offer
  • Self-employment or company ownership
  • Study or training
  • Family reunification
  • Property and long-term living plans
  • Other residence grounds recognized by current law

3. Choose a region and city

Compare Belgrade, Vojvodina, Šumadija and Western Serbia, and Southern and Eastern Serbia by housing, work, transport, business environment and lifestyle. SerbiaNews region and city pages bring local news and practical information into one place.

4. Set up everyday life

  • Address and foreigner stay registration
  • Residence/work procedure when required
  • Banking and payments
  • Housing and utilities
  • Healthcare and insurance
  • Phone, internet and transport
  • School/childcare if moving with children
