How our local newsrooms verify information

California58 is a shared editorial network serving 667 local newsroom pages across California’s 58 counties (network snapshot: October 27, 2026). We give preference to primary documents, official agency records, on-the-record statements and direct reporting where it has actually taken place. Every reported date, proposed project, public expenditure, emergency notice and decision should be attributed clearly. A planned action is not reported as completed, an allegation is not presented as a finding, and an official press release is not treated as independent eyewitness reporting.

Sources and time-sensitive stories

We link to original official records when accessible and distinguish original publication dates, significant update dates and verification dates. A document, road closure, event schedule, government proposal or grant eligibility may change after a story is published. For current instructions, the responsible agency remains the primary authority. We may use AI-assisted tools for research and drafting under our Editorial Standards; tools must never invent a quote, interview, original record or verified outcome.

Request a factual correction

Email the shared editorial desk at california58com@gmail.com. Include the article URL, local newsroom name, the exact statement in question, what is incorrect and a supporting source or document if available. Requests about privacy, images or ownership may also be directed to the same address. We review the evidence and make appropriate factual corrections; we may ask for more information and cannot guarantee a particular response deadline or outcome.

How corrections appear

Where a material factual correction changes readers’ understanding, we aim to explain the change clearly in the story and preserve an editorial update record. Minor spelling or formatting fixes may be made without a separate public note. Editorial disagreements and requests to remove accurate, newsworthy information are assessed individually and are not automatically treated as factual errors.

Transparency and contact

News, opinion, advertising, sponsored messages, affiliate resources and generated illustrations should be identified according to their actual role. A local newsroom title is not a claim of a separately staffed office. See Ownership & Transparency, Local Newsroom Charter and Contact California58.
