COALINGA NEWS | LOCAL PUBLIC-INTEREST REPORTING · 2026
Coalinga approved an environmental action in September 2026 for an extensive sewer rehabilitation program. The City of Coalinga’s filed Notice of Determination describes work to renew tens of thousands of feet of gravity mains and make repairs at the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
The size of the proposed work
The city lists about 30,815 linear feet of gravity sewer that would be rehabilitated using trenchless methods, together with approximately 19,801 linear feet of mains to be replaced through more traditional construction. Together, those figures exceed 50,000 feet—roughly nine and a half miles of pipe—although the project covers different techniques and locations.
What trenchless sewer work means
Trenchless rehabilitation can restore or reinforce some underground pipe without excavating the complete length of a street. Other segments may need to be opened and replaced conventionally. The actual traffic, access and utility effects depend on construction contracts and staging plans, which are not determined by the environmental filing alone.
What was decided in September
The state record says the City of Coalinga approved the environmental action September 3, with the notice filed September 9. A mitigated declaration and monitoring program were included in the decision. This is an official planning milestone, not proof that the whole sewer network has already been rehabilitated.
Why ratepayers should track delivery
Reliable underground infrastructure matters to residents and businesses even when most of the work is invisible. Coalinga News will follow future contract awards, work schedules, project financing and reporting on actual feet completed. Residents can report street access issues and service concerns through official city channels.
