NEEDLES NEWS | ORIGINAL LOCAL NEWS · OCTOBER 2026
The City of Needles filed a 2026 environmental notice for a public off-highway motor vehicle staging area on a city-owned parcel by the Needles Rodeo Grounds. The planned facility would offer a more organized location for visitors to park and prepare for rides on the area’s existing OHMV route network.
What the public documents establish
The August 25 state filing identifies a 4.57-acre site near Clary Drive and San Clemente Street. Proposed amenities include paved parking with ADA-accessible spaces, a prefabricated restroom, informational kiosks, signs, fencing, drainage, landscaping, and utility connections. The plan is intended to concentrate visitor activity and support safer access management.
Why this matters locally
A dedicated staging area could change how recreational vehicles arrive, park and move between Needles businesses and public routes. Visitors also have an interest in proper sanitation and clear route information. The city’s finding says the land is previously disturbed and already served by infrastructure, but it does not supply a confirmed public opening date.
What residents can check next
Questions for local residents include how users enter and exit the site, permitted hours, traffic management, restroom upkeep, construction funding and whether it affects surrounding properties. An environmental notice is not an announcement that construction is finished. Needles News will follow procurement, completion and opening records when available.
