SOLVANG NEWS | ORIGINAL COMMUNITY REPORT · OCTOBER 2026
The City of Solvang filed a California environmental exemption notice on April 20, 2026 for its fiscal-year 2025–26 roadway rehabilitation program. The proposal covers Alamo Pintado Road and multiple neighborhood roads and alleys, with work intended to renew existing pavement rather than widen the city street network.
Details from the official project record
On Alamo Pintado Road from Viborg Drive to the northern city limit, the plan describes removing five inches of existing pavement, placing five inches of new asphalt in the travel lanes and adding a two-inch surface cap across the roadway. Other locations include Alisal Road between Oak Street and Fjord Drive; Park Way, selected alleyways, First, Fourth and Fifth streets and several residential streets.
Why this is important locally
Street rehabilitation can affect daily driving, cycling, deliveries and walking access. The city specifically identifies revised bicycle lane striping on parts of the Alamo Pintado corridor. Because the project is framed as maintenance of existing roadways, the state filing does not itself authorize new traffic lanes or establish that all pavement was laid by a fixed date.
What to watch next
Solvang News will track actual street-by-street construction notices, traffic plans and final completion records. Residents should verify posted restrictions through the city rather than use the April approval as a live road closure map.
