ORLAND, Glenn County — October 15, 2026. Voters in the City of Orland will fill three City Council seats in the November 3, 2026 general municipal election. What makes the ballot unusual is that the positions do not all carry the same term, and the city has been examining a change in how council districts are elected.
Two four-year council positions — and one two-year seat
The city’s official election information identifies two full terms running from December 2026 to December 2030 and one shorter term ending in December 2028. Its election notice repeats the distinction. The page identifies the seats currently held by Alex Enriquez, Wade Elliott and John McDermott as the three seats scheduled for election; that is not the same thing as a final certified list of people running.
Residents should read the office titles and term lengths on their official ballot rather than assuming every City Council choice is a four-year position.
How might district elections affect Orland?
Orland has begun a process of considering district-based council elections instead of having every voter choose from citywide council candidates. The city’s public notices describe a December 2025 resolution of intent and public hearings on the proposed transition. A change to district elections can affect who is eligible to run for a seat and which residents can vote for that position.
Crucially, the initiation of a districting process is not proof that a particular district map or election sequence is already operative. Before voting, check the city’s final district map, adopted ordinance and the Glenn County sample ballot. California58 is not assuming at-large or by-district rules for each November seat without the final official election materials.
Where is the final candidate list?
The city’s posted election notice describes the offices and nomination process, not a complete certified candidate roster. For that information, contact the Orland City Clerk or the Glenn County Elections Department. The Orland City Clerk’s election page lists contact information for Jennifer Schmitke, including (530) 865-1610.
Statewide races and voting deadlines
Orland residents also participate in the November 3 California statewide general election. The regular online voter-registration deadline is October 19. Polls are open 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day; authorized early voting and vote-by-mail arrangements vary by county. Those who miss the regular registration deadline can ask Glenn County about conditional registration at approved locations.
