WHEATLAND, Yuba County — People planning a camping or boating trip to Camp Far West Lake near Wheatland need to understand that its north and south shore campground areas follow different operating schedules.

On the recreation operator’s official Camp Far West Lake website, the North Shore is described as open year-round with 70 campsites, including eight RV sites with full hookups. The South Shore is seasonal, with 67 sites offered on selected weekends and special-event dates. These add up to 137 listed campsites, not 137 sites guaranteed to be available on any given weekend.

What does the operator charge?

The posted price list describes ordinary day-use access as $20 per passenger vehicle for up to six people, and a vehicle arriving with a boat as $25. A standard lakeside campsite is listed from $40 per night, while a North Shore RV full-hookup site is listed from $65. Additional vehicles, guests, pets and watercraft may carry separate charges.

Those figures come from the operator’s advertised schedule at the time of this report. Fees, site types, surcharges and reservation requirements may change, so visitors should confirm the total directly before making plans.

When can people use the South Shore?

The operator says South Shore camping opens for select holiday weekends, including Memorial Day, Father’s Day, New Year’s and special events, rather than operating as a full-time campground. A seasonal description does not establish that a site is available on the weekend someone wants.

North Shore amenities include a boat ramp, dock, restrooms, camp store and dump station according to the operator. Guests should ask which facilities are functioning on their actual travel dates, especially during winter storms or unusual reservoir conditions.

Reservations and contact information

Camp Far West Lake lists its address as 8176 Camp Far West Road, Wheatland, CA 95692, and telephone 530-633-0803. The operator’s booking information directs visitors to reserve by telephone or through the camp store, with reservation service advertised Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For boating and swimming, check local safety and lake-use rules separately. The operator’s website is a useful start for trip planning, but posted rates and site inventory should not be confused with real-time vacancy or water conditions.
