ARBUCKLE NEWS | ORIGINAL LOCAL NEWS · OCTOBER 2026
The Colusa County Planning Commission approved the Westside Aggregates Project on April 22, 2026, according to the county’s Notice of Determination filed six days later. The project is a proposed aggregate extraction and processing operation on roughly 200 acres about four miles west of Arbuckle, near Cortina School Road and Sand Creek Road.
What the official record establishes
The public plan lists five excavation areas, a 23-acre processing facility, settling ponds and a water supply pond. It estimates potential extraction of up to 9.5 million tons of aggregate at a maximum rate of two million tons in one year. The applicant’s long-range concept includes reclamation of the site to open space suitable for agricultural and similar uses.
Public-interest questions
The county used an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration and approved a mitigation monitoring and reporting program. Formal approval is a significant step, but the filing does not tell residents when each excavation phase starts, how many truck trips will occur on a given day, or whether the full proposed annual production will be reached. Traffic, air, water and agricultural land use require follow-through under adopted conditions.
Next reporting steps
Arbuckle News will follow permits, actual extraction, haul routes, air controls, water use and reclamation obligations. The newsroom welcomes relevant public records and documented views from nearby residents, businesses and project representatives.
