Marin County filed an environmental notice in April 2026 for a nature-based restoration of the southern shoreline of Bolinas Lagoon. The project would improve approximately 4,340 linear feet of shoreline and manage vegetation over another 1,200 feet, with the intention of supporting wetland function and adapting to sea-level rise.

What the documents say

The county describes work along the Stinson Beach sand spit between the vicinity of Dipsea Road and Calle del Arroyo. Goals include improving natural sediment transport, connecting wildlife habitats, enhancing conditions for resident and migratory birds, and supporting marsh and dune processes. The public document calls the intervention a multi-benefit living shoreline rather than a conventional hard seawall.

What it means for residents

Coastal residents have a direct interest in how wetlands buffer storm conditions and how changes to shorelines influence access and habitat. But a restoration exemption and proposed design do not establish that every foot of shoreline has already been treated, or that the project guarantees protection against all future flooding.

How to follow the work

Bolinas News will track the project design, construction scheduling, monitoring of vegetation and birds, and any restrictions for pedestrians or nearby properties. Readers should use current county notices for site-access information rather than infer opening dates from the April filing.
