GREENFIELD, Monterey County — October 15, 2026. Voters in the City of Greenfield will decide Measure O on November 3. According to the official Monterey County list of local ballot questions, this measure would continue an existing voter-approved 0.75% city sales tax through March 31, 2033, with an estimated $1.4 million annually.

Why is Greenfield voting again on a 0.75% tax?

The wording calls the measure a continuation or re-enactment of a locally approved tax, rather than presenting it as a new statewide tax. The city says the money could support public safety, youth recreation, code enforcement and other essential local services. These are general-service priorities identified in the ballot question; passing the measure does not by itself guarantee a specific program, hiring decision or service level.

What are the limits and oversight provisions?

The county’s posted summary specifies annual audits and review by a city-established oversight committee. It also gives an expiration date: March 31, 2033. That matters because a tax with an ending date has a different long-term structure from an unrestricted tax with no sunset. The anticipated $1.4 million per year is an estimate; actual taxable spending can rise or fall.

Who gets Measure O on their ballot?

This is a City of Greenfield measure. Being a Monterey County resident does not automatically qualify someone to vote on it. Greenfield residents should check their city boundaries and the sample ballot assigned to their address through the county elections department.

Which local offices are up for election?

The city’s June 2026 election consolidation resolution schedules a mayoral office and district council elections. Because a county government office roster has shown district information that does not perfectly match the municipal resolution, California58 is not presenting an assumed definitive district number for every voter: the final Monterey County sample ballot and certified City Clerk notices should resolve any inconsistency. This distinction is important for residents living near district boundaries.

What happens on November 3?
