GRIDLEY NEWS | LOCAL PUBLIC-INTEREST REPORTING · 2026

Butte County took an official action in April 2026 toward a new behavioral health facility in Gridley. The state Environmental Quality Act database records county approval on April 9 for a proposed single-story, 10,100-square-foot Behavioral Health Center designed to expand local counseling and group program space.

What the planned center would offer

The project description says the new facility would provide offices for individual counseling along with larger meeting rooms intended for group therapy and staff training. It is designed to serve low- to moderate-income individuals and families in the Gridley area. That is a planned use, not evidence that appointments are already available or that an operator has published patient registration instructions.

Site improvements beyond the building

The county proposal combines four existing parcels into two and locates the facility on an existing open turf area near Kentucky Street. The project also proposes reconfigured parking, landscaping, and a solid six-foot wall where parking areas adjoin residential uses. Each of these elements may matter to nearby residents as construction and site access are planned.

Environmental approval versus opening day

Butte County’s state Notice of Determination says the project was approved April 9, 2026, after a mitigated negative declaration, with mitigation measures and a monitoring program. This is a completed planning step, but no building opening date or staffing schedule is established by this particular record. Construction awards and certificates of occupancy require separate confirmation.

Why access to care is significant

Rural communities may face travel and scheduling challenges when specialty services are concentrated farther away. Additional local facility space could reduce some of those barriers, but its actual benefit will depend on how the center is staffed, what services are funded and how referrals are handled. Gridley News will follow these developments from official county records and invites corrections and community input.
