PIRU, Ventura County — Lake Piru offers an overnight recreation option north of Piru that continues beyond the busy summer season. According to the recreation area’s official camping information, updated in May 2026, its campground includes 236 sites open year-round, though availability, amenities and operational rules depend on the site selected.

What types of camping does the operator list?

The Lake Piru Recreation Area advertises shaded tent and RV sites, some with water, power and sewer hookups. The operator says certain sites can fit motorhomes and trailers up to 42 feet, though most accommodate RVs up to 36 feet. It also identifies two group camping sites, primitive overflow areas, showers, restrooms, water facilities and a dump station.

This mix of facilities does not mean each amenity is included at no extra charge or that every campsite is available for the same dates. Travelers should check the reservation terms and confirmed space dimensions before towing a large trailer.

Quiet time and campsite rules

The operator lists quiet hours from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. and states that park rangers enforce them. Group sizes, pet rules, fires, boat-launch requirements and seasonal water access may be subject to separate conditions. Nightly charges and any reservation fees should be checked at the time of booking rather than assumed from a historical brochure.

Getting there

Lake Piru Recreation Area is reached from the community of Piru via Piru Canyon Road, north of the Santa Clara River valley. The operator provides driving directions and a campground map on its website. Because the roads and facilities are operated independently of nearby national forest recreation sites, travelers should follow the site’s own entry and safety notices.

Water safety is a separate issue

Camping access is not confirmation that swimming, boating or other on-water activities are available or safe on a particular day. Water levels, wind, temperatures and park rules can affect access. People going onto the lake should wear suitable flotation equipment and check current lake and weather advisories.

Families considering a weekend away should confirm arrival and checkout times, parking and additional vehicle rules. Local Piru businesses also benefit when visitors know what is available during autumn and winter instead of assuming the entire facility closes after summer.
