SUISUN CITY, Solano County — The network of sloughs south of Suisun City is part of one of California’s most important brackish-water wetlands. It supports birds, fish, recreation and infrastructure designed to maintain water quality.

California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways facility record identifies Belden’s Landing, at 3186 Grizzly Island Road, as a public boat launch on Montezuma Slough. The state lists restrooms and a contact telephone of 707-374-2097.

Why check the launch before arriving?

A facility’s presence in a boating directory does not confirm that a ramp is operating on a particular day, that water levels are sufficient for every vessel, or that a specific service is available without a fee. Boat operators should check tides, navigation hazards and seasonal access with the managing agency.

Marsh channels may experience strong tidal currents, changing depths and limited visibility. Boat passengers should wear appropriate flotation devices and comply with California boating rules and navigation notices.

Why the Suisun Marsh gates matter

According to the California Department of Water Resources, the Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates stand near the eastern end of Montezuma Slough by Collinsville. Operators modify tidal water movement to help maintain salinity conditions favorable to wetlands and waterfowl habitat.

The marsh is where the saltier waters of San Francisco Bay interact with fresher Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta flows. Salinity management is therefore more than a technical detail: it can affect plant communities and habitat quality across a broad area.

The agency’s past engineering update describes maintenance undertaken to keep the gates operating, including refurbishment of large gate sections. That archived 2022 report should not be mistaken for a 2026 announcement of a new closure or construction project.

How to follow waterways and environmental decisions

Boaters can check California State Parks boating guidance, and residents can use the DWR’s Delta facilities pages to understand public investments and agency responsibilities. These sources help identify questions about maintenance, habitat effectiveness and safe recreation.
