MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — November 5, 2026. Three separate races for seats on the Marin County Board of Education are included in the November 3 general-election reporting. Unlike a countywide mayoral election — which the county does not hold — these offices are elected within individual trustee areas. The early county results displayed by KQED show distinct leading candidates in Areas 3, 5 and 6.

Area 3: Irish and Adams

Cynthia Johanson Irish received 6,602 votes (84.4%), compared with Craig Stuart Adams’s 1,219 (15.5%), in the first report. The recorded difference of 5,383 applies only to Trustee Area 3, and the final total can still change as more eligible ballots are processed.

Area 5: Nemzer and Lieberman

Marilyn Nemzer had 5,240 votes (70.5%), versus Avery Lieberman’s 2,191 (29.4%), a difference of 3,049. A different group of voters participates in Area 5 compared with Area 3; dividing the two totals and comparing turnout without registered-voter data for each area would be misleading.

Area 6: Robinson and Goddard

In Area 6, Curtis F. Robinson led with 6,049 votes (71.6%) and James Goddard had 2,398 (28.3%), a reported difference of 3,651. All three contests are distinct and uncertified.

What the county education board does

County boards of education oversee functions of county education offices and handle certain appeals, school district boundary and policy matters under state law. They are not the same as the directly elected boards of Novato Unified, Reed Union, or Sausalito–Marin City School District. Each governing body has a separate budget, constituency and legal assignment. That difference is essential for residents who are seeking help with a particular school’s decisions.

Read the local school reports

Our local editions also cover the Novato Unified Area 4 election, Reed Union board and Sausalito–Marin City trustees. These are different ballots, not repeats of the same county seat.

Marin County’s official election results page will report additional counts as the canvass proceeds. All numbers above come from the source snapshot last updated November 4 at 1:05 a.m. and may change before certification.
