GRAEAGLE, Plumas County — People exploring Plumas-Eureka State Park this fall should not expect the museum or campground to operate on the summer schedule. California State Parks has posted separate arrangements for overnight stays, interpretation and ordinary day visits.

The park’s current seasonal availability update says the park remains open year-round for day use and that the campground closed on September 8, 2026. Following limited museum and program openings in mid-September, the museum and interpretive venues shifted to special events only after September 21.

What visitors can still do

Plumas-Eureka preserves important Sierra mining and community history, with forest trails and historic features that can be appreciated during daylight visits when open to the public. The park’s visitor displays explore the region’s nineteenth-century gold mining history. A park being open for day use does not necessarily mean its staffed facilities or every trail is accessible.

The Upper Jamison Creek Campground is normally seasonal and may not reopen until before or around the Memorial Day period the following year, subject to conditions. Travelers seeking a campsite should consult ReserveCalifornia and the park’s updated page rather than rely on a previously advertised summer reservation.

Check weather and winter access

By October, early snow, icy roads and downed trees may affect higher-elevation Sierra routes. Hikers should check posted trail advisories and be prepared for cold weather and reduced daylight. Overnight access to a closed campground is not allowed merely because its entrances appear physically accessible.

For information, State Parks lists the park office at 530-836-2380. For special event inquiries, its page lists 530-550-6165 and a state parks events address.

What this means for Graeagle residents and businesses

Visitors still have a reason to explore local cultural and natural sites in the off-season, but businesses and accommodation providers should distinguish between year-round park day use, seasonal museum programs and summer-only camping. These are three different services.
