WATSONVILLE, SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — OCTOBER 18, 2026. Caltrans has scheduled an overnight full closure of Lincoln Street at State Route 152 in Watsonville, beginning Sunday night, October 18, to complete paving and pothole restoration. The agency says work will take place overnight through the week and is expected to finish by Thursday morning, October 22.

When will the street close?

The announced work window is 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on affected nights. The closure covers Lincoln Street from Highway 152 to East Beach Street. This is a specific city-street closure associated with the state highway, not a reported continuous four-day shutdown of all Highway 152 lanes.

Which detour should drivers follow?

Caltrans identifies Carr Street and Blackburn Street as the official detour routes for motorists entering downtown from Highway 152 or reaching Highway 152 from town. Portable message signs will alert travelers before the work zone. The department estimates delays should not exceed roughly five minutes, but this is a forecast, not a guarantee for every trip.

What work will occur?

Crews will pave the affected road section and restore pothole areas. Caltrans expressly warns nearby residents to expect loud nighttime construction noise. Milling, truck movements and other resurfacing activities may create intermittent noise even where the pavement work is a short distance away.

What should businesses and residents do?

People who travel through downtown Watsonville after work, make deliveries, or need night access should identify the detour before arriving at Lincoln Street. Drivers should respect barricades and temporary signs; detour routing may affect neighboring blocks differently as work progresses. Those who live directly on the affected road should contact the appropriate public works or Caltrans office about specific driveway-access questions, instead of assuming regular access will continue.

Where to check for changes

Caltrans says that construction schedules are subject to change based on weather and field conditions. For up-to-date highway information, visit Caltrans QuickMap. The official October 2 notice includes the posted work period and detour.

What changes for residents? Travelers between the highway and central Watsonville should expect a short, nighttime local detour through October 22. Separately, California58 reported the Harkins Slough Overcrossing improvement project, which is different construction and should not be conflated with this Lincoln Street paving.
