NEVADA COUNTY — October 26, 2026. County election officials say they have reviewed a list of 10 names identified by the U.S. Department of Justice in a demand letter delivered October 23. Federal officials described the individuals as likely non-citizens and requested investigation of their status and that any submitted ballots be set aside.

The federal allegation is not a finding that any named person voted illegally. The county’s October 24 statement does not identify those voters publicly or say a court has ruled that their ballots are invalid.

What the county says it is doing

Registrar Armando Salud-Ambriz says the elections office reviewed the list and is preparing a formal response in consultation with county counsel and guidance from the California Secretary of State. The registrar states the office is complying with federal and state law and that every eligible voter must be able to cast a ballot and have it counted lawfully.

Information voters should rely on

Voting for the November 3 general election is underway. Residents looking for where to vote or submit a ballot can use Nevada County’s official voting locations resource. Do not treat a dispute over a list of ten people as a verified statement that all local election results are compromised.

The county describes a legal dispute and its administrative response; California58 has not independently reviewed the federal letter or a final reply. Any court action or subsequent official finding should be reported separately.
