Why California58

California information is spread across state agencies, 58 county governments, hundreds of cities, public data systems, local newsrooms and thousands of individual websites. California58 is being built to connect those layers in a way that is easier to search, understand and use.

The product and editorial goal is straightforward: build a statewide system that helps people move from a question, place or address to useful information, authoritative sources and the correct next action. California58 combines original journalism, public-service guides, live data, geographic structure, travel discovery and practical California tools.

Editorial and development approach

California58 is developed as a mobile-first, multilingual and source-backed platform. The project uses WordPress, custom California58 software, structured data, public data sources and AI-assisted tools where appropriate, while maintaining editorial standards, source transparency and clear separation between independent information and affiliated or sponsored services.
