MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — October 28, 2026. Monterey County officials are addressing concerns about reported federal immigration enforcement near county facilities in Salinas. In a statement on October 27, county representatives said there was no confirmed ICE operation on the Natividad Medical Center hospital campus and that the publicly operated hospital remains open, with care continuing.

The hospital and Monterey County Jail occupy separate facilities in the same broader county-government area. County statements reported by Bay City News distinguished activity reportedly seen near the jail from claims that federal agents were operating on hospital grounds. Confusing those locations can frighten patients and lead people to postpone important care.

Temporary jail restrictions were lifted

Separately, on October 28, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office reported that the jail had returned to normal operations following a precautionary approximately three-hour lockdown on Tuesday, October 27. The temporary restrictions had affected the intake of new bookings, the release process and ordinary visiting access while demonstrators gathered outside the jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office account reported by KSBW, no people scheduled for release missed their planned release; the office said regular releases continued in accordance with normal procedures and schedules. The sheriff’s statement concerns county jail operations, not the legal status of any particular person or the precise nature of federal investigations.

What has not been established

Some community members and local observers reported federal agents in the vicinity of county facilities. Monterey County officials did not assert that no enforcement activity occurred anywhere in Salinas. Conversely, unverified online accounts about agents inside the hospital should not be treated as confirmed facts. Federal agencies may conduct their own activities without notifying county law enforcement.

This report does not attempt to identify private individuals, publish tactical locations of enforcement personnel, or infer an immigration status from an unverified encounter.

Where patients and residents can seek reliable information

Natividad’s official website at natividad.com lists the public medical center’s services and contact details. Patients with scheduled care should contact the hospital directly about their appointments. In a medical emergency, call 911. Changes in official public safety notices should be checked with the County of Monterey and the Sheriff’s Office.

Source documentation: Bay City News report of the county’s October 27 Natividad statement; KSBW’s October 28 update quoting the Sheriff’s Office; and Pajaronian reporting with county spokesman Nicholas Pasculli’s clarification.

Editorial note: This article combines the closely related county facility and hospital clarifications in one story. Confirmed new facts will update this URL, not produce repeated alarmist headlines in surrounding neighborhood newspapers.
