MONTEREY COUNTY — October 29, 2026. Monterey County’s Fiscal Year 2026–27 road program includes a proposal for 19 projects and a transfer of up to $12.5 million in Measure AA money to the county Roads and Bridges budget. The proposal appeared before the Board of Supervisors on October 13, 2026, under RES 26-165.
What funding did the county seek?
The published agenda recommends transferring $12.5 million from the General Fund into the road fund, divided into $12 million for capital assets and $500,000 for services and supplies. The transfers would support work identified by Public Works, Facilities and Parks for unincorporated Monterey County.
Does this mean all 19 projects are underway?
No. The official agenda describes the recommended funding authorization. It is not proof that 19 separate construction contracts have been awarded or that any particular road segment has been completed. The online legislative listing consulted for this article did not display a confirmed final action, so the allocation should not be represented as an executed expenditure solely on that basis.
How does Measure AA work?
Measure AA is a voter-approved general sales tax, with county officials identifying roads and other services among the purposes for its proceeds. Allocating tax proceeds to the road fund is separate from later contractor bidding, construction notices, inspections and project completion.
Why this matters to small communities
Rural and unincorporated neighborhoods may lack city-run road programs and depend on county maintenance for pavement, drainage and safe access. Rather than assuming every community receives an identical share, residents should consult the Attachment B — Measure AA Roads Plan FY26–27 for specific segments and funding requests.
How residents can follow the work
Request the executed board resolution, annual road-program updates and contracts associated with each project number. For active traffic restrictions, check county Public Works traffic notices separately; a budget agenda does not provide a current detour.
