CALIFORNIA — The California High-Speed Rail Authority says its board has approved a contract with Siemens Mobility for the state’s first high-speed trainsets and, in a separate action, the environmental document for the Los Angeles–Anaheim segment. The authority listed the combined announcement on October 29, 2026.

What the train contract covers

According to the authority, the initial order covers three high-speed trainsets, with options to add more later. The scope includes design, manufacturing, delivery, systems integration, testing and commissioning, along with maintenance services. The first trains are expected to be available for dynamic testing in the Central Valley by early 2030, under the authority’s current schedule.

These are procurement and development milestones, not a claim that passenger trains are already operating. The authority continues to identify 2033 as its target for passenger service. Future dates depend on construction, testing, certification and funding.

What changed for Los Angeles and Orange County

The board also approved the final environmental document for the roughly 30-mile Los Angeles–Anaheim section. The authority says this completes project-level environmental clearance for the planned 494-mile Phase 1 system between San Francisco and Los Angeles/Anaheim.

Environmental clearance permits the project to move through a major review stage; it does not mean construction on every section is financed, underway or finished. For residents and businesses along the Southern California corridor, future design, construction and community-impact decisions still matter.

What to watch next

The immediate questions are when detailed train manufacturing milestones will be finalized, how track and systems installation advances in the Central Valley, and how the authority will fund and schedule the remaining segments. California58 will distinguish future targets from work actually completed.

Editorial note: The authority’s October 29 web release displays an inconsistent internal date in its body. This report uses the announcement’s October 29 listing and describes the board actions reported by the authority; it does not infer a separate earlier approval date.
