MERCED / CALIFORNIA — October 26, 2026. The California Arts Council announced nearly $10 million in additional financial support for arts organizations and regional cultural partners following its public meeting in Merced. The agency says the approved allocation totals $9,977,820.

Where the funds go

Of the new support, $5,762,820 is directed to the existing General Operating Support program, reaching 496 additional applicants whose scores fell within the council’s specified funding tier. The remaining $4,215,000 is for the second year of support for 56 State-Local Partners. Those are two separate program groups, and the agency does not describe 552 entirely new grantees.

The funds can help nonprofit arts organizations keep staff, pay artists, maintain facilities and sustain programming in communities large and small. A Council allocation is not necessarily a new application opportunity for every arts business; people seeking future rounds should check the state agency’s published program schedule and eligibility rules.

Separate funds for cultural districts

The announcement also describes a distinct $4 million appropriation for Cultural Districts, which should not be added to the $9.98 million operating support total as if all funds came from the same program.
