CALIFORNIA — October 26, 2026. SACRAMENTO — California’s Office of Emergency Services is highlighting victim and survivor assistance during October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In an October 22 state update, Cal OES described programs supporting crisis intervention, emergency shelter, counseling, housing stability and other services through providers across California.

What it means for residents

The state’s Victim Services Branch supports multiple programs dedicated to domestic violence survivors. Among those highlighted are Domestic Violence Assistance, which supports local victim-service providers, and Domestic Violence Housing First, focused on securing safe, stable housing. These descriptions refer to publicly supported programs, not a promise that a particular shelter has an immediately available bed.

What happens next

Residents seeking services should use verified local providers and state resources, taking care to protect personal privacy when looking for help. In an immediate emergency, call 911. If it is unsafe to browse on a shared device, use a safer phone or computer if possible. County-level information must reflect actual local service contacts rather than invented statewide availability.

Where to verify

California58 will list Domestic Violence Awareness Month in its date-aware observance calendar and link to the Cal OES original material. It is an October awareness initiative and does not mean that all agencies, schools or employers take a public holiday.
