The Employment Development Department (EDD) administers California unemployment benefits. EDD says the fastest way to apply is online through myEDD and UI Online.

Before applying

Review eligibility and gather your work and identity information. Regular unemployment generally requires enough wages in the base period, unemployment through no fault of your own, and ongoing ability, availability and willingness to work.

After filing

EDD’s process includes registering in CalJOBS when required, reviewing benefit documents, certifying for benefits and continuing to certify while eligible. UI Online can show claim and payment information.

Language help

EDD publishes phone support in multiple languages, including Armenian, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog and Vietnamese, with interpreter services for other languages.
