CALIFORNIA — October 22, 2026. Have a used bicycle, a room to rent, a community event, a part-time opening or a local service to advertise? California58 Classifieds brings community listings together across the state’s 58 counties. Readers can browse by county, city, ZIP code, category and an interactive California map. The first listing in each county is free for a registered account.

Start with one free listing in your county

To reduce bots and duplicate advertisements, California58 allows one new complimentary classified submission per rolling 24 hours per account and originating network. Each submission requires editorial approval. Ordinary owners may use the existing renewal button for their original free ad without creating a second listing or using another free county slot. People legitimately sharing one network can contact the newsroom if the network-level safety limit affects them.

California58 offers one complimentary 30-day classified per registered account per county, subject to review. There is no credit card required to submit that first free listing. One free slot can be used for a job, a room, a vehicle, a service, a community notice, something for sale or something wanted, provided the advertisement meets the site rules. A person may be interested in more than one county, but the first-free limit is tracked separately for each county.

How to post in five steps

  1. Create a free account or sign in. Account login helps the newsroom moderate submissions and allows you to manage your listing later.
  2. Select a category. Choose the most relevant area: Jobs, Housing, For Sale, Services, Community, Gigs or Wanted, then a more specific category.
  3. Write a useful title and description. Include genuine details such as condition, availability, required experience, price or rate. Avoid misleading or discriminatory claims.
  4. Enter a city, county and five-digit ZIP code. An approximate map location can be added, but the map pin is optional; do not reveal a private residence.
  5. Submit for editorial review. Your ad is not instantly public. Once approved, it can appear in the California58 Classifieds search and listing map, where the location is only approximate.

Find listings beyond your own town

A listing placed in one county can be discovered by people searching the statewide California58 directory. For example, someone in Ridgecrest can look for tools in Kern County while also browsing neighboring Inyo or San Bernardino counties. The map and location filters give readers a broader view without forcing the seller to publish their home address.

This is not a promise that your listing will automatically be published as editorial news in every local newspaper. California58’s network of community newspapers links readers to the common classifieds directory; individual listings remain user-submitted advertising and are identified separately from reporting.

What does it cost?

Placement Price Availability
First county classified (initial 30 days) $0 — free Submit for moderation now
Renew the same original free county listing for 30 more days (unchanged) $0 — free again Available from 7 days before expiration or after expiration in My Classifieds
Second or additional county classified — each 30-day period or renewal $1 per period Paid checkout not enabled yet
Statewide paid distribution or its renewal — each 30-day period $5 per period Paid checkout not enabled yet

What happens after 30 days? Free renewal of your original listing

After its 30-day period, an advertisement is removed from public search and kept in your account, not permanently deleted. From the last seven days of the period, or after the ad expires, visit My Classifieds and select Renew free for another 30 days for your approved original free county advertisement. The same listing ID, description, category and location are retained. You can repeat this free renewal for future 30-day periods while the listing remains eligible. Changed content requires editorial review.

If you have two advertisements in one county, the original free slot may be renewed without charge; the additional advertisement has a $1 fee per 30-day period, including renewal. Statewide distribution costs $5 per 30-day period, including renewal. Paid checkout is not enabled yet, so paid placements and paid renewals cannot be activated. Never send a fee by email to release your original free listing. Dates are shown in your listing dashboard; emailed notices depend on mail delivery.

What makes a good local classified?

Be specific about the location and value of the offer. A title like “Used lawn mower — working, pickup in Barstow” is more helpful than “Great deal!” For a job, include approximate pay, responsibilities, schedule and the type of employer. For housing, use accurate terms and comply with fair-housing rules. For services, disclose relevant licensing or qualifications and avoid guarantees you cannot substantiate.

Protect your privacy and avoid scams

Listings are moderated, but moderation is not a guarantee that every advertiser or response is trustworthy. Never send Social Security numbers, passwords, account codes or gift cards to strangers. Inspect goods before paying, verify housing claims independently and check applicable licenses for regulated services. A listing’s approximate map marker is not proof of the seller’s exact location.

Read the California58 Classifieds Safety Guide. You can also report a questionable public listing using the report feature. California58 is not a government marketplace or an employer, landlord or seller for listings posted by visitors.

Why the 58-county network matters

Large online marketplaces often emphasize the biggest metropolitan areas. A California58 directory can help smaller communities remain visible alongside larger cities, from Trona and Ridgecrest to Barstow, Bishop, Sacramento and San Diego. Its value will depend on genuine local participation, responsible moderation and listings that remain current. Our community papers can help people discover the directory while retaining their own newsroom identity.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to post the first ad?

No. The first free county listing uses an account-based submission process and requires editorial approval, not a payment card.

Will my listing appear immediately?

No. New submissions enter a moderation queue. Once approved, active listings are discoverable in the directory.

Can I use an exact residential address?

Use a city and ZIP, and an approximate map location if desired. Do not publish sensitive private details or mark a home on the public map without considering the privacy implications.

Can I place listings in multiple counties?

The complimentary first listing is tracked by county. Submissions are rate-limited to protect the service against spam. Listing the same item repeatedly across counties may be rejected as duplicate or misleading advertising.

Can I edit or remove my listing?

Yes. Use My Classifieds after signing in. An edit may return the listing to moderation, and withdrawal does not automatically restore the free slot.
