HIRSCHDALE, eastern Nevada County — October 26, 2026. Two long-running bridge projects east of Truckee are approaching their final stages, but they have different access statuses. Nevada County says the new Truckee River Bridge is already open to traffic, while work on the nearby Hinton railroad overcrossing continues.

Truckee River Bridge: new crossing in use

The $10.4 million replacement is approximately 90% complete. It replaces a deteriorated bridge built in 1926. Crews incorporated wildlife protections, including bat roosting structures under the bridge, and are building stairs on the downstream side for improved public access to river recreation. The new steps are an unfinished amenity and should not be treated as an officially opened public route until construction is complete.

Hinton railroad crossing: reinforcement underway

The adjacent $3.3 million rehabilitation is approximately 80% complete. Workers are strengthening pillars with steel and concrete, according to the county. The projects are expected to wrap up in November, conditional on weather and construction progress.

Hirschdale is a distinct rural settlement east of Truckee. Nevada County provided a project update at its October 6 board meeting and published the report October 13. Drivers should follow local signs before entering an active construction section and should not presume that every bridge is now fully finished.
