HUMBOLDT COUNTY, California — November 5, 2026. Humboldt County’s ‘final election-night report’ should not be confused with a final certified election result. The county had counted 21,509 ballots by shortly after midnight on November 4, representing about 24.86% of registered voters. County officials plan further updates starting Thursday, November 5, and on subsequent Wednesdays and Fridays, because eligible ballots remain to be reviewed.

Why the election-night total is only an early snapshot

According to the North Coast Journal’s November 4 coverage, the county elections office plans updates every Wednesday and Friday by 5 p.m. after the Thursday release, continuing until certification on December 3. The available report does not quantify precisely how many ballots are still outstanding. Reporting all 120 precincts is not equivalent to completing the legal canvass.

Close races in Eureka, Arcata and Blue Lake

In Eureka City Council Ward 3, G Mario Fernandez has 470 votes to Janelle Jackson’s 430. In Arcata’s two-seat council contest, the second and third candidates are separated by 12 votes: Abigail Strickland 767 and Genevieve Serna 755. In Blue Lake, all four council candidates were separated by just seven votes, with two positions open. These are distinct municipal elections, not competing candidates for a single countywide office.

Hospital, school and fire funding questions

Southern Humboldt healthcare district Measure K recorded 701 Yes and 455 No votes in the Humboldt County portion, about 60.64% Yes but below its two-thirds requirement in that local report. The district also includes part of Mendocino County, so a final districtwide result must account for both counties. Ferndale fire district Measure F showed 425 Yes to 191 No; separate school bond and sales tax measures require their own legal thresholds.

What local readers should follow

California58 has separate reporting on Arcata’s council election, Blue Lake’s four-candidate race, Eureka’s local elections and Fortuna Measure D. Each article must retain its own count timestamp rather than silently substitute an unrelated city total.

County certification remains pending

Election staff continue reviewing qualifying mailed and other ballots before certification. The county’s Wednesday/Friday schedule identifies when numbers are expected to change but does not prove an update was posted. The Humboldt County Elections Office controls official results. The 21,509 figure here is the latest cited November 4 election-night snapshot, not a claim that counting has stopped.
