MERCED COUNTY, Calif. — With severe weather, flooding and other emergencies possible across the Central Valley, Merced County is encouraging residents to register mobile phones and email addresses for local safety notifications before they are needed.

Sign up for emergency messages

The county’s emergency notifications page directs residents to an Everbridge-based system for warnings about evacuations, severe weather, roads and public-safety threats. According to the Sheriff and Office of Emergency Services guidance, listed landline numbers may already be in the notification database, but people who want calls, texts or emails on other devices must register those details.

The county says registration is free, although individual mobile providers may charge for receiving calls or messages under a customer’s plan. New residents and those who change phone numbers should update their information.

Find local evacuation and shelter information

The same county website links to a Perimeter Map designed to show relevant incident information such as evacuation areas, traffic control points, shelters and sandbag locations. Maps only reflect the data available to officials at the time; conditions on the ground and direct emergency instructions can change more quickly.

Residents in Merced, Atwater, Los Banos, Livingston, Delhi and rural communities should discuss routes and communication plans with family members. Registration adds one channel of information; it should not replace emergency broadcasts or directions from first responders.
