MONTEREY COUNTY, California — October 29, 2026. Road crews are working on multiple corridors across Monterey County this week, from Highway 68 near the peninsula to U.S. 101 through the Salinas Valley and Highway 1 along Big Sur. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) Cone Zone Report for October 25–31 lists several scheduled lane and ramp restrictions.

These are announced schedules, not a live statement about which lanes are closed at this moment. Work is weather-dependent and crews may change the timing. Check Caltrans QuickMap before driving.

Highway 68: overnight drainage work through Friday, October 30

TAMC lists alternating eastbound and westbound lane closures on State Route 68 at several locations during the October 25–30 period. Among the scheduled work sites are:

  • Sunset Drive: drainage work, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • David Avenue to Forest Hill Boulevard: drainage work, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Presidio Boulevard to Samuel F. B. Morse Drive: drainage work, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • El Toro Creek Bridge to Torero Drive: drainage work, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The report separately lists a full closure of the eastbound off-ramp at Toro Park as part of drainage work scheduled through October 30. The published description does not give a reliable universal detour for every travel origin; drivers should follow on-site directions. Our Toro Park News story provides the community-specific background.

U.S. 101: Salinas Valley and south-county restrictions

For the section from Sanborn Road to Alisal Road, TAMC reports northbound lane, median and shoulder closures for drainage work between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., October 25–30. The agency also lists longer-term lane and shoulder restrictions between Hobson Avenue and Teague Avenue for pavement work, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with possible delays of around 10 minutes.

Farther south, TAMC lists one-lane restrictions in both directions on U.S. 101 between Lockwood/San Lucas Road and Route 198 for drainage cleaning, October 26–30 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with possible 10-minute delays. Read the previous Lockwood News report for that location’s specific impact.

Big Sur: Highway 1 controls and a separate October 29 closure

TAMC’s weekly report lists continuing one-way traffic controls near Torre Canyon Bridge for post-fire slope stabilization, and work at Mud Creek through November 13. Caltrans separately announced a full daytime Highway 1 closure near Torre Canyon Bridge for Thursday, October 29, scheduled for 8 a.m.–noon and 1–5 p.m., with a noon–1 p.m. opening, weather permitting. That special closure is not the same as the routine one-way controls.

See the Big Sur News October 29 report for the Caltrans notice and the original Caltrans advisory for the stated schedule.

Before you leave

Drivers can confirm current incidents and lane restrictions on Caltrans QuickMap, and review the TAMC Cone Zone Report for planned work. On narrow coastal roads and at work zones, allow extra time and follow flaggers, posted signs and emergency directions.
