Sequoia National Park protects giant sequoia groves, deep canyons and high Sierra Nevada terrain, including some of the most dramatic elevation changes in California’s national park system.

Before you go

Check current alerts, road conditions, snow, wildfire information and weather. Mountain access can change quickly, and winter conditions may require tire chains even when roads are open.

Giant Forest and sequoia groves

Many visitors come to see the Giant Forest and the General Sherman Tree. Parking, shuttle operations and access patterns can vary by season, so confirm current transportation information before arrival.

Mountain roads

Roads are winding and steep. Travel times can be much longer than map distance suggests. Large vehicles and drivers unfamiliar with mountain roads should review route guidance carefully.

Camping, lodging and wilderness

Camping and lodging operate seasonally in multiple areas. Backcountry travel may require permits and careful preparation for altitude, rapidly changing weather and food storage.

Bears and wildlife

Bear-safe food storage is required in many Sierra locations. Follow current rules for food, trash and scented items and keep distance from wildlife.
