SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. The race for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s District 4 is being counted across portions of nine counties. In Sacramento County’s part of the district, challenger Eric Jones (D) has 3,393 votes (62.1%) and incumbent Mike Thompson (D) has 2,070 (37.9%) in the most recent accessible county-level snapshot. Eric Jones held a 1,323-vote lead in this county portion, not necessarily in the combined congressional district. The source’s most recent timestamp for Sacramento is Nov. 4, 1:40 a.m. Pacific, and the results are not certified.

What the reported totals actually measure

These are 5,463 valid candidate votes within the Sacramento County portion of District 4. It would be wrong to describe 5,463 as all ballots cast in Sacramento County or to treat its share as the entire county’s voting preference. The data are from the November 2026 Congressional District 4 by-county election tracker, with the statewide two-candidate tally corroborated by KQED/Associated Press. The county result is a dated unofficial snapshot.

How Sacramento’s count compares with the district

Across all nine county portions at the last combined update, Jones had 61,856 votes (about 51.6%) and Thompson 58,031 (about 48.4%), a districtwide reported difference of 3,825 votes. The Sacramento County local order also favors Jones, but that is not a prediction of how the remaining valid ballots will be split. Different counties report at different times, and the number of valid ballots still to be counted in each portion of this congressional district is not established by a single media tracker.

The local significance of Sacramento’s returns

The 5,463 votes shown here are only Sacramento County’s part of District 4. Sacramento County separately recorded 271,406 ballots in its semi-final countywide reporting. A House-district slice is already embedded within those county totals and must not be added to them as if it were a second batch.

Other elections in Sacramento County

The county also has school trustee elections, regional college measures and municipal questions with different district lines. California58 has a separate Sacramento County canvass report and a reporting schedule for the next release on November 6. County, city, township and school elections are not copies of the same federal contest; the candidates, district boundaries and legal thresholds can differ. Where separate local counts are available, California58 will report them in those locations’ editions rather than reusing the District 4 percentage as a local outcome.

When will this result be final?

The California Secretary of State explains that mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day, valid provisional ballots and ballots cast after conditional registration remain part of the official canvass. A reported precinct percentage is not proof that every eligible ballot has been reviewed. County officials must complete the official results by December 3; statewide certification is scheduled for December 11. Local results can change before then. The next official batch should be compared to the Nov. 4, 1:40 a.m. source snapshot, never blended with another reporting time.

Each county contributes a different slice and a different quantity of votes, which the summary reconciles without counting any ballot twice. The by-county results and the California Secretary of State’s official election results remain available for independent checks.
