SISKIYOU COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 6, 2026. In the Siskiyou County Superintendent of Schools election, incumbent Allan S. Carver has 4,898 votes (53.12%) and challenger Mark Greenfield has 4,322 (46.88%) in the county’s November 3 second election-night report. The county-level margin is 576 votes, but neither candidate has been legally certified as the winner.

What the election concerns

The county superintendent works in an education administration role within California’s county office of education system. Duties can include serving school districts, administration, educational coordination and oversight functions established by state law. The superintendent is not the same as an elected school district trustee: local school boards retain their own budgets, personnel and policy responsibilities, subject to applicable law.

Other elections and the geographic boundary

Siskiyou had other education questions. Mount Shasta Union Elementary’s Measure J facilities bond had 1,445 Yes and 674 No in the first count. The county also elected members of local school boards. Those electorates may be smaller than the county and their votes must not be added to the superintendent election.

Why the result matters locally

A voter can vote in the governor’s race while skipping a county education contest. The county report lists 11,250 ballots across 62 initial precincts, whereas the superintendent candidate votes total 9,220. The difference should not automatically be described as rejected ballots or missing voters; the county records individual contest undervotes and other ballot accounting separately. Eligible mailed and provisional ballots may still change the contest before certification.

When to expect official results

The Siskiyou News analysis published November 4 reports the county’s second election-night results update at approximately 11:11 p.m. November 3, including 11,250 ballots reported out of 27,706 registered voters and 62 of 62 precincts. That does not mean all lawful mail, provisional or other ballots have been counted. The Siskiyou County Elections Office is the official source for subsequent canvass figures. California counties finish their legal canvass before statewide certification in December. This story does not claim a new numerical county update on November 6.
