Write for Your Local Newspaper
Every voice deserves a chance to be heard. Every California resident can propose original reporting, a community announcement, a documented local concern, an interview or a letter for editorial consideration. You do not need to be a professional journalist.
How California58’s contributor review works
- Submit: Tell us your town, which newspaper should consider the story, what happened, when and how the information can be verified.
- Editorial review: Our newsroom assesses public interest, authorship, accuracy, fairness, privacy, source material and publication risks.
- Collaborate: The editor may request documentation and revise headlines, structure or language. The author can review the updated text and request additional changes.
- Author approval: The edited final version must receive explicit approval from its author before publication.
- Publication: Editors select the appropriate local newspaper, county edition and/or statewide coverage. Publication is not guaranteed; editorial decisions remain with California58.
Submission never authorizes the automatic publication of accusations, personal data or copyrighted material belonging to someone else. Disclose significant AI assistance and previously published versions; preserve your source records. Photos require permission from the copyright holder. We may decline or postpone a story, even after review.
Submission status: The secure contributor form is being reviewed for activation. Until it is enabled, send original material to california58com@gmail.com, including your name, town, source links and preferred byline. Do not email sensitive personal information unnecessarily.
Existing letters-to-the-editor submission remains available. Registered readers can visit My California to manage their community preferences when these features are enabled.
