VALYERMO, Los Angeles County — Outdoor travelers planning a picnic near Valyermo should first verify whether the destination is available. The U.S. Forest Service’s destinations directory lists the Valyermo Picnic Site as “CLOSED until further notice.”
What does the listing mean?
The federal listing describes the status of a specific recreation site; it does not say that the whole community of Valyermo, nearby public highways or all of Angeles National Forest are closed. Such distinctions are important when planning trips in the foothills.
Check the latest order and site map
The Angeles National Forest alerts page publishes formal orders and restrictions. Forest-wide alerts and site-by-site status may be updated at different times. Before visiting any picnic area, check the exact recreation listing, access roads, day-use fees and whether a wilderness or fire permit is required.
Roads and weather are separate questions
Mountain weather may change quickly. The Caltrans QuickMap covers state highway incidents, while Los Angeles County Public Works posts county road information. Neither source is a substitute for a forest closure order covering a recreation site.
Visitors should carry water and avoid driving around gates. The U.S. Forest Service directory did not provide a reliable reopening date in the listing reviewed for this article; no reopening is claimed.
