MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County, November 3, 2026 election-night report. Measure E received a Yes majority in the first official election-night results for a proposed increase in Monterey County’s lodging tax in unincorporated territory.
Reported votes
The early tally lists 47,841 Yes votes (70.87%) and 19,669 No (29.13%). The proposal would increase the transient occupancy tax from 10.5% to 12.5% for eligible lodging in unincorporated areas, not hotels inside incorporated cities.
Why this contest or proposal matters
The county estimated the change could produce roughly $7.6 million in annual revenue, but that is not money already received or earmarked for a specific service. The measure requires a simple majority; its early standing is unofficial and may change as ballots are counted.
Unofficial results, not a new count
The figures are from Monterey County’s 8:30 p.m. November 3 reporting snapshot as published in regional election coverage. This article does not claim a new November 5 tally. Further valid mail, provisional and conditional ballots may be included during the official canvass.
