TRINITY COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 6, 2026. The local Trinity County vote on California’s Proposition 39 is unusually close. The county’s November 3, 10:27 p.m. unofficial report lists 1,373 Yes votes (51.27%) and 1,305 No (48.73%), a 68-vote Yes lead among 2,678 valid selections. Because this is a statewide proposition, the result within Trinity County does not determine whether the proposal becomes California law.

What Proposition 39 proposes

The voter information guide describes requirements concerning voter identification, citizenship verification and voter-roll administration. The exact statutory and constitutional effects should be read from the California Secretary of State’s official voter guide. The Trinity County election table tells us how county voters selected Yes or No, but not why they made those choices.

County versus statewide results

A small county-level Yes lead is not a certification or projection of the statewide outcome. To determine whether the proposition passes, all valid votes from across California must be included. Other counties may vote differently, and preliminary statewide news calls must be attributed to their reporting organization.

Different question, different denominator

Trinity’s countywide report lists 2,768 ballots, but 2,678 valid Yes/No votes on Proposition 39. The difference reflects contest-level undervotes and other ballot accounting, not proof that 90 residents failed to participate in the election. A county reporter should never combine totals across propositions to infer unique voter turnout.

Other close county-level measures

In the same source, Proposition 38 has 1,301 Yes versus 1,340 No, a 39-vote local No lead; Proposition 45 has 1,339 Yes versus 1,288 No, a 51-vote Yes lead. See the additional proposition analysis. The county’s own count is in pages 11 and 13 of its PDF.

How the official canvass works

The Trinity County unofficial cumulative results are dated November 3, 2026, at 10:27 p.m., and list 16 of 16 precincts reporting. That is not the same as all valid mail, provisional and other ballots being processed. The county election official will complete the canvass and certify local contests; statewide election certification follows in December. The source date is stated to prevent the old batch being mistaken for a fresh November 6 count.
