SIERRA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — November 6, 2026. In an all-vote-by-mail county, the phrase “100% precincts reporting” is not the same as a certified election. Sierra County’s November 4, 3:38 p.m. unofficial results report shows 1,475 processed ballots, 2,164 registered voters and 19 of 19 precincts reporting, with a preliminary participation rate of 68.16%. The vote count may still change after valid mailed and provisional ballots are evaluated.
Why Sierra County uses vote-by-mail
The county election office explains that the November 3 contest is an all-mail election, with no designated polling places. Voters received vote-by-mail ballots and the county tabulated eligible returned selections. The reported precincts describe the initial election reporting system’s scope rather than individual in-person voting sites.
What the county’s online dashboard reports
The county official election results page displayed 1,475 processed ballots and offered a link to its November 3 unofficial results and unprocessed-ballot reporting. An unprocessed figure was not displayed in the accessible text of that page; it would be misleading to report zero outstanding ballots simply because the field is blank. California58 therefore does not invent a countywide unprocessed-ballot total or the number still awaiting review in a single district.
Close supervisor race and other votes
For County Supervisor District 2, the November 4 file has Bryan Davey at 154 votes and Sonya Z. Meline at 127, a 27-vote difference in a much smaller constituency than the county. See our existing, dated District 2 article. On Proposition 38, a statewide question, Yes leads No by 17 votes locally. These figures illustrate how each ballot question has a different set of valid selections.
What is needed before final numbers
Election officials must verify ballot eligibility, review challenged or provisional votes where relevant, reconcile records and complete the statutory canvass. Until then, early margins are unofficial. Readers can consult the Clerk-Recorder’s results page and the 12-page report rather than relying on a news summary without a reporting timestamp.
