SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. The Board of Supervisors approved agreements enabling the county Behavioral Health Department to provide approximately $190,000 in supportive services as a local match to the Housing Authority’s federal Continuum of Care funding.

What programs are covered?

Rental assistance funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is provided through Project Gateway, Laurelbrook Estates, Lantern Woods and Cornerstone. These initiatives serve people experiencing chronic homelessness, including families, and are paired with behavioral health support.

What does the 286-family figure mean?

The county states rental assistance is available to a combined 286 families during the agreements. This does not mean 286 new vouchers were released on November 3 or that 286 open slots are available to the public today. Capacity, current vacancies and eligibility require confirmation from the Housing Authority and participating providers.

Support beyond a rental payment

County services can include case management, help finding housing, employment support, life-skills assistance, transportation and mental health or substance-use services. Pairing stable housing with ongoing support may help participants maintain their placement, but the decision announcement does not provide new outcome statistics or a waiting-list timetable.

What happens next?

Residents can consult the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino for program details. County officials say the Behavioral Health Department has met this grant’s local-match requirements since 2003, so the latest agreements continue an established model rather than create the full system from scratch.
