ORANGE COUNTY — California State Parks issued a detailed October 15, 2026 update about storm damage at Crystal Cove State Park, Doheny State Beach and San Onofre State Beach. Visitors should not treat these three destinations as having identical closures.

Crystal Cove: beach and bluff restrictions

The department reports portions of the Historic District beach closed, with damage affecting bluffs, utilities and historic cottages. The Pelican Point P2 beach access trail remains closed following a bluff failure, while a section at Moro Cove south of Lifeguard Headquarters is restricted due to bluff instability. North Beach Cottages were scheduled to reopen October 14; South Beach Cottages were awaiting waterline repairs and a safety check. Check current reservations and access before traveling.

Doheny: open, but some parking restricted

State Parks says Doheny State Beach remains open while crews remove debris, address drainage and repair storm impacts. Some parking areas remain restricted. Visitors should follow temporary signs rather than relying solely on older parking maps.

San Onofre: vehicle access differs from pedestrian access

At San Onofre Surf Beach, the access road is closed to vehicle traffic because of erosion and damage to parking, water and restroom infrastructure. The department says pedestrians, cyclists and surfers can still reach permitted areas, excluding work zones and unsafe sections. The upper paved lot has limited capacity; visitors should check site notices and consider alternative transportation.

When will everything reopen?

The department did not promise a universal reopening date. Repairs, inspections, shoreline protection and public safety assessments will determine timing. That makes the park’s own current condition page more reliable than a screenshot from a previous week.

Planning note: this report is accurate to the department’s October 15 statement and should be updated whenever the agency changes closures or access rules. For coastal hazards, heed National Weather Service advisories and avoid unstable bluffs.
