BAKER, San Bernardino County — October 23, 2026. A San Bernardino County planning resource offers Baker residents and business owners a way to review the community’s long-standing priorities: housing, opportunities tied to visitors traveling Interstate 15, employment and access to education and transportation.

The Baker Community Action Guide was developed through community planning workshops held in November 2016 and January 2017. It records proposals and aspirations from that process. It is not a notice that every listed project has been approved, funded or built.

What the community planning document says

On housing, the guide addresses the need for more options and for repairs to existing homes. On local business, it discusses attracting more visitors from the Interstate 15 corridor and sustaining tourism and hospitality-related employment near Baker Boulevard.

The document also describes goals for youth employment, internships, vocational training and ways to improve connections with education opportunities in Barstow. Ideas involving transportation or a clinic should be understood as planning priorities rather than current service announcements.

Why the distinction matters

Local development documents can help journalists and residents identify questions for county agencies, but an aspirational plan is not evidence of construction or funding. Anyone seeking to confirm a specific grant, transit route, infrastructure change or public meeting should request the relevant current agency record and date.

Baker is an unincorporated community, so county-level decisions may be particularly important for land use and local public services. Residents can compare the guide with current announcements from San Bernardino County and relevant service providers.

Baker News, part of California58 Local, welcomes public notices, verifiable documents, event information and corrections from Baker residents. Regional coverage is also available through Barstow News. We will distinguish verified current actions from older proposals in subsequent coverage.
