SONOMA COUNTY — October 26, 2026. California State Parks has posted a revised, tentative October 26–28 window for controlled burning near Seaview Road at Salt Point State Park. The October 23 visitor notice says Prairie Trail will close temporarily for burn operations and asks park users to avoid the immediate area.

State Parks has previously described a program of up to 261 acres of prescribed burning in this coastal forest area, designed to reduce accumulated vegetation fuels and support habitat management. This is planned fire under controlled conditions, not confirmation that a wildfire has started or that ignition has occurred on October 26. Timing depends on weather and smoke-dispersal conditions.

Visitor access and smoke

The agency says the park may remain open while the specific Prairie Trail is restricted. Visitors should follow posted closure signs, directions from fire crews, and any later changes to the park’s notice. Planned burning may be postponed if conditions do not permit safe operations. People sensitive to smoke should review current air conditions before visiting the coast.

Updated notice: California State Parks, October 23. Program background: State Parks prescribed fire announcement. This report is for Sonoma County readers; it does not claim that the burn has started.
