FRESNO COUNTY — October 26, 2026. The latest Employment Development Department county figures show that Fresno County’s labor market remained under pressure in September. EDD estimates a labor force of 478,400, with approximately 443,200 employed and 35,200 unemployed, yielding a 7.4% unemployment rate that is not seasonally adjusted.

The comparable statewide county-table rate is 5.1%, but comparisons require caution. The county table is not seasonally adjusted and should not be equated with a household’s income prospects, agricultural employment conditions in one town, or the separate seasonally adjusted statewide payroll-jobs figure. The numbers summarize a month, rather than show how many openings are available today in Fresno or rural parts of the county.

Why the county measure matters

Residents across Fresno County depend on a mix of agriculture, logistics, healthcare, education and service employment, which means individual experiences can differ markedly. The report provides a regional benchmark for public discussion, but cannot establish which local employer is hiring or laying off. That requires separate verification.

For current opportunities see CalJOBS. Original data: EDD county labor force table for September 2026, published October 16. This is a Fresno County analysis, not a claim about a particular Fresno-area municipality.
