NEVADA COUNTY — October 26, 2026. County officials reported today that Nevada County’s cross-agency approach to community resilience was featured at the Resilient California Summit in Sacramento, October 20–22.
A rural partnership rather than a new construction contract
Members of the Resilience Project of Western Nevada County led a workshop on how communities can combine public-sector resources, nonprofit work and residents’ local knowledge to improve planning for disasters and other stresses. The county describes the session as an interactive exchange of practices, not an award of new state funds or authorization for a specific building project.
Speakers came from multiple organizations and communities, including county supervisors Sue Hoek and Hardy Bullock, Nevada City representative Micayla Sortland, Grass Valley representative Duane Strawser, and partners from Nevada Irrigation District and the Nevada County Resource Conservation District.
Why this matters for small towns
Wildfire, infrastructure disruptions and emergency recovery often cross city limits. A joint framework can help ensure that the needs of rural neighbors are part of regional planning. Whether a particular action will be funded or delivered must still be established through separate agency decisions.
