ORANGE COUNTY — October 26, 2026. Ahead of the 2026–27 rainy season, Orange County has established a dedicated El Niño emergency-response information hub to help residents find official notices and prepare for heavy rain, coastal hazards and other storm impacts. The county announced the hub October 9 and says the resource will be updated as conditions change.
One starting point for several kinds of risks
The Orange County emergency hub connects residents to county emergency announcements, participating city sites, National Weather Service and tidal information, preparedness instructions for businesses and households, guidance for pets and livestock, and warnings about mudslides and debris flows near burn scars. Public Works also maintains a separate infrastructure and storm-preparedness page.
For coastal residents in Dana Point, Laguna Beach and San Clemente, earlier storm damage and local emergency proclamations add urgency to checking official notices, but the October 9 launch does not by itself constitute a fresh evacuation order or a forecast that flooding will occur on a particular street.
What people can do before storms
Residents can sign up for AlertOC, review emergency routes and prepare a kit including medication and supplies for animals. People living downhill of wildfire burn areas should learn whether their homes are vulnerable to sediment flows. During a flood, do not drive through water covering the road. Utility outages and road restrictions should be checked through the relevant provider and transportation agency.
El Niño changes probabilities and risk patterns; an outlook is not a precise prediction of when or where flooding will occur. Check current National Weather Service alerts and instructions from emergency managers before taking protective action.
