SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. The county is coordinating storm preparedness across its departments as officials assess potential El Niño-related rainfall, flooding and debris-flow risks this season. Public Works is inspecting and maintaining drainage systems, flood-control channels and roads, while emergency agencies coordinate forecasts and response plans.

Where attention is focused

The county says mountain communities and places affected by previous wildfires deserve particular attention. Heavy rainfall on steep slopes or burned ground can trigger rapidly moving debris or cause roads to close. Equipment is being positioned around the county so crews can respond to flooding, rockfall and other disruptions.

Is a particular storm forecast?

This is a preparedness announcement, not an active evacuation notice or proof that an extreme storm will strike a specific town. El Niño describes ocean-atmosphere conditions that can influence seasonal weather; it does not guarantee a given amount of rain at an individual location. Residents should rely on National Weather Service forecasts and county alerts for current conditions.

What residents can do now

The county recommends reviewing flood and evacuation routes, learning where to obtain sandbags, signing up for its Telephone Emergency Notification System and checking the Ready SB County app. People who need extra time to evacuate, including residents with mobility limitations or large animals, should prepare transport arrangements early. Do not wait for a road to become impassable before responding to an official evacuation warning.
