AMADOR COUNTY, Calif. — Travelers moving between Jackson, Pine Grove, Pioneer, Sutter Creek and rural communities need to distinguish county-maintained roads from state highways when looking for repairs, closures and reliable driving conditions.

What the county maintains

Amador County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works oversees county road and bridge maintenance, infrastructure projects and transportation-related permits. Its website links to an online work request, a county-maintained roads list, snow removal policies, current public-works projects and emergency road closure information.

Residents reporting a pothole, drainage concern or other maintenance issue should first check whether the affected roadway is maintained by the county. The public-works office is at 810 Court Street, Jackson; the county publishes 209-223-6429 and publicworks@amadorcounty.gov for inquiries.

Why older road notices need care

The department’s road page retains information about Shake Ridge Road, Electra Road and seasonal routes. Some notices document past conditions or construction dates; they should not be treated as proof of an ongoing closure without checking the latest update. County-published project and closure pages can help residents distinguish historical notices from current restrictions.

For highways such as State Routes 49 and 88, consult Caltrans QuickMap for highway traffic and incident conditions. Conditions may change during winter storms, roadwork or emergency response; allow extra time and obey posted traffic controls.
