MALIBU, Los Angeles County — A long-running Pacific Coast Highway paving project began on October 27, 2026, and the City of Malibu says the work could continue through winter 2029–30.

The work zone covers PCH from Malibu Lagoon to the Ventura County line. According to the city’s traffic advisory, weekday operations are expected between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., with at least one lane remaining open in each direction. The scope includes pavement rehabilitation, curb ramps, guardrails, signs, lights, signals and roadway striping. Residents may notice construction noise, vibration and changes to traffic flow during work periods. Caltrans and its contractors may revise schedules because of weather or field conditions.

What drivers should do

Allow more time for school, work and medical trips along the coastal highway. Stay alert for workers and temporary traffic controls. Do not assume every section of PCH is affected on a given day; consult Caltrans QuickMap and city traffic alerts before departure. The city also reminds motorists that fines can be higher in construction zones.
