MALIBU, Los Angeles County — Drivers who notice flashes from speed cameras on Pacific Coast Highway should not assume a citation has been issued.

In a September 29 update, Malibu said its planned warning period was delayed from late September to November 2026 while installation adjustments and an eastern Malibu speed-limit study continued. The study focuses particularly on Carbon Canyon and Tuna Canyon areas. The city said cameras operating during the preliminary testing phase were collecting speeding data rather than accessing DMV information, issuing warnings or taking enforcement action. Preliminary tests September 16–24 recorded approximately 100,000 speeding instances at four camera locations, according to the city. That preliminary figure should not be mistaken for citations.

Timing remains subject to updates

The earlier timetable for civil penalties has changed, so drivers should rely on the city’s updated notices rather than old launch dates. The broader program is intended to discourage serious speeding on PCH, a corridor shared by commuters, beach visitors, pedestrians and cyclists. The city maintains a dedicated PCH safety email for questions at PCHsafety@MalibuCity.org.
