California58 is an independent, California-wide media and public-information network connecting the state’s 58 counties, 483 incorporated cities, and rural and unincorporated communities. Through community-focused local newsrooms, original journalism, community information, public-source guides, history and practical resources, we are building a connected platform for all Californians — from the largest metropolitan areas to small towns and rural settlements.
Our geographic coverage policy: We aim to make every named California community findable and assign it to a responsible local newspaper. Our local newsroom network: California58 maintains a growing collection of digital community editions throughout all 58 counties, including cities and rural or unincorporated places. Numbers of published editions and stories change as the network develops. These online editions are not independently staffed offices or separate legal entities, and publication counts should not be mistaken for audited audience or advertising impressions. The project combines practical California Life guides, all 58 counties, cities and communities, original California news, travel and places, business and investment information, government and civic resources, emergency information, history, culture, data and live public-source context.
A statewide public-information mission
California58 is designed around a simple idea: useful California information should not depend on whether someone lives in a major metro area, a rural county or a smaller community. The platform is building the same statewide structure for all 58 counties so local civic, practical and emergency information can be easier to find and understand.
Multilingual access
California58 is being developed as a multilingual platform. Language versions are quality-gated so editorial material is not silently mixed between languages. The long-term goal is to make high-value California information more accessible to communities that are often underserved by statewide English-only information systems.
How California58 works
California58 starts with authoritative public and primary sources, then adds original explanation, local context, navigation and relationships between places, services and stories. Official actions stay with the responsible government agency. Affiliated commercial services and paid placements are clearly labeled and separated from independent editorial information.
Media production, international creative work and community events
California58 offers separately contracted services in California and considers projects across the United States and internationally. These include commercial video, photography, remote video editing, conference and event documentation, digital marketing, web projects, copywriting and multilingual media production. Media production and community events
Alongside its independent journalism, California58 can discuss separately commissioned photography, video production, interviews, live broadcasts, recording of public meetings and conferences, advertising creative and community-information events for businesses, nonprofit groups and public agencies. These production services have written scope and costs and are kept distinct from independent editorial decisions. Accessibility, corrections and trust
The platform is being developed with accessibility, source transparency, corrections and mobile access as core product requirements. California58 is intended to help people reach the right official source, understand what matters and take the next step without pretending to replace government agencies.
