SACRAMENTO — October 26, 2026. California announced a new round of $115.2 million in Homekey+ housing awards on Monday for projects in five communities. The program uses funding tied to Proposition 1, approved by voters in 2024, to expand permanent supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness and living with behavioral health challenges, including veterans.
According to the governor’s office, Homekey+ funding awards have now supported 2,905 permanent homes statewide, including 828 intended for veterans. The latest award recipients include projects in Yuba City, San Francisco, Riverside County, Lompoc and Los Angeles. That statewide total reflects homes funded, not 2,905 newly completed apartments available for immediate occupancy.
Five communities, different kinds of housing projects
In Yuba City, Merriment Village Apartments Phase II is slated for 138 homes, with 70 reserved for qualifying veterans and funding of just under $40.6 million. In San Francisco, a 63-unit apartment building is planned for rehabilitation through a nearly $18.7 million award, with 44 supportive homes serving eligible veterans. In Riverside County, an $16.2 million award helps fund the 80-unit Camino Terrace project, of which 35 units are designated for the Homekey+ population, including 28 veteran units.
In Lompoc, Santa Barbara County housing partners are receiving nearly $20.9 million toward a 49-unit Brisa Encina development, including 19 homes set aside for qualifying veterans. In Los Angeles, an $18.8 million award is intended to convert a former motel into Casa Bella, with 61 supportive homes plus a manager unit.
Funding decisions are not leasing announcements
Project construction and rehabilitation timelines, eligibility, referrals and application procedures are handled locally. Residents should verify future tenant intake directly through the responsible housing authority or project operator. Homekey+ is a specialized supportive-housing program rather than a general voucher automatically available to all renters.
Original announcement: Governor of California, October 26, 2026. Additional housing program information is available from the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
